About LumenARRT!

ARRT!, a project of the Union of Maine Visual Artists, has created over 700 issue-oriented banners to promote the work of progressive non-profits throughout the state (see them at www.arrteam.org). Now LumenARRT! is creating video projections to call attention to the work of these non-profits.

So…why’s a video projection group making Villain Cards? As summer, 2025 evolved, we felt frustrated; we wanted to share educational info about the people behind the scenes of the administration’s madness, but it’s a lot to squeeze onto a wall and expect people to stand and read it! (Not to mention, it gets dark late in Maine summers and people go to bed early!) We wanted something to hand out…a brochure? a flyer? One member of our group, Geoffrey Leighton, mentioned baseball cards, then another member, James LaPlante, piled on with his knowledge of all things Marvel/Hobbit/Pokemon to design the layout. Another member, Nora Tryon, painted the portraits and before you know it, here we are! Sometimes you just have to get creative and pivot!

We also continue to do projections…they may contain animation, live action, and video-mapping sequences created by our crew that includes, Geoffrey Leighton, Deb Fahy, Nora Tryon, Richard Tryon, Anita Clearfield, James LaPlante, Kevin Rocray, and Tina-Marie Davidson.
